Introduction. The paper presents basic information about the modern role of the IMF in various biochemical processes. Emphasis is placed on the role of MMPs in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. These published data suggest ambiguity of scientific views on the role of MMPs in the etiology and pathogenesis of inflammatory and inflammatory-destructive periodontal disease. The aim of the study. Ascertainment diagnostic value increasing concentrations of inflammatory cytokines in saliva of patients with inflammatory and inflammatory-destructive periodontal disease. Methods. We conducted a comprehensive dental examination in 145 patients aged 18 to 52 years, 63 of them – with an intact periodontium, 25 – with mild periodontitis, 45 – with an average severity parodontitai 12 – with severe periodontitis. Concentrations of MMP-8 and MMP-9 in unstimulated saliva was measured by enzyme immunoassay. Results. Revealed a number of regularities concentrations of inflammatory cytokines in saliva of patients with different state of periodontal tissues. At the initial stage of the inflammatory and degenerative diseases periodontal crucial factor hygienic conditions and, in particular microbial contamination of the oral cavity. In the future progression of the disease due to the addition of age-related changes in the human body, and this factor according to the results of correlation analysis, begins to play an important role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. From this we can assume that the inflammatory- dystrophic process in periodontitis develops in stages and at each stage it is possible the emergence of new pathogenic factors or summation of their negative impact. MMP-9 in oral fluid may serve as a marker of chronic generalized periodontitis. Conclusions. The presence in these patients oral prosthetic constructions made of nickel-chromium alloys or chrom-cobalt leads to increased levels of MMP-2, IL-1β and IL-6 in saliva.
