Introduction. Breast cancer pathogenesis is associated with alterations in processes of regulating of IGF effects and also in IGF-signaling pathway activation. The direct correlation between high IGF blood serum levels and the rescue of malignancies in prostate, breast, ovarium, colon, lung and cervix. The aim of the study. Evaluation of IGF-I and IGF-II blood serum levels in breast cancer patients and in practically healthy women, and also analysis of links between obtained data and basic clinico-morphological characteristics of breast cancer. Methods. Insulin-like growth factors 1 and 2 (IGF 1 and IGF 2) were measured in blood serum of 79 patients with primary breast cancer and 16 control practically healthy women aged 27–76 using standard ELISA kits («IGF-I ELISA», «IGF-II ELISA» (Mediagnost GmbH, Germany). HER2/neu, ER and PR receptor status of breast cancer tissues was evaluated by standart immunohistochemical methods. Results. No correlation was found between basic IGF-I and IGF-II serum levels and TNM rates. The IGF serum levels correlated reliably only with menopausal status and with (ER)(PR)Her-2/neu status of breast cancer. Conclusions. Obtained data confirm hypothesis about involvement of IGF-signaling pathway in regulation of receptor-negative breast cancer growth.
